Welcome to the Museum of Air Traffic Control!

Learn about the purpose of this site here.

Updates:

  • On 7 January 2008 the Jakarta Post reported that a team of specialists at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport received awards for designing a backup for the Jakarta Automatic Air Traffic Control System (JAATCS). We've taken this
opportunity to reach out to Indonesia's AT service provider, PT Angkasa Pura II, asking for their participation in producing an ATC country study of Indonesia for this website. They said "yes" and we've now got an Indonesia page up and running. Check here. [19 February 2008]
  • We have been using AirNav System's Live Flight Tracker™ for air traffic analysis for a number of years, however, the interface is clearly not designed for this sort of work. We have had to build an automated process to capture screen shots every minute, clean-up the images in PhotoShop, and finally build animations. We have found that a far better solution, for our purposes, is either FLIGHTExplorer Professional Edition or FlyteComm Corporation's FlyteTrax II™ and FlyteSource™ products, and have made a request with both companies for a no-cost trial, and we'll be requesting a no-cost subscription from one of them. We'll let you know how this turns out, and, once we do, please show your support for us by purchasing the products of the company we go with. We'd appreciate it.

We've added more photographs to our airway beacon page.

  • The first of our "Trip Reports" is finished. It's a report on the tower and TRACON at Gowen Field in Boise, Idaho (BOI/KBOI). Note, however, that this is a large web page due to the images and graphics (700k). It will open in a new window. [16 February 2007]

  • The US Internal Revenue Service received our application for tax-exempt status on 14 March 2006, and today we received our reply: We are exempt from Federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. In other words, donations to the Aviation Policy Institute, Inc., and the Museum of Air Traffic Control are now tax-deductable! Click here to see the exemption letter. [7 December 2006]
